The KID BI Academy was initiated to address the lingering shortage of skills and resources in the BI/DW arena and has operated successfully for several years.

The Training Academy was instituted by KID in January 2007 and is the mechanism KID uses to make available their extensive knowledge and experience base to selected interns.

Charl Barnard, with more than 10 years hands-on and technical experience, manages the Training Academy and intern recruits.

The Intern Programme:

The KID BI Academy runs a six-month BI internship program of which the first 3 months comprises class room tuition, practical exercises and examinations, and the remaining 3 months are spent in a real time project working environment where practical experience is gained under senior supervision.

On successful completion of the internship program, learners have a clear understanding of Data warehouse design and architecture, ETL processes, Data quality, Data profiling and Reporting including valuable on-site experience.

Application to the 3-month intern programme is open to graduates with a B Com IT or similar degree. In addition, applicants will undergo screening to assess aptitude and skills level.

Generally, a new intern programme is run every 4 months and each intake is limited to 8 interns. For the duration of the programme, KID will employ interns on a fixed term contract.

Training and Certification:

The KID BI Training Academy has invested in state-of-the-art training material from the US.

Interns will be exposed to tools such as MicroStrategy, IBM Cognos, Informatica and Oracle and will receive certification on these tools where appropriate.

KID sits on the Industry Advisory Committee of the Tswane University Technicon.
